In order to tough stains, dirt or debris through sound waves, ultrasonic cleaning devices are used. When sound waves bounce against the pieces of strong dirt, these cannot hold themselves together and start to disintegrate, causing them to crack away from the surface. A process known as “cavitation” occurs when bubbles are formed under water due to strong vibrations and then later burst ultimately cleaning the surface. Since this process tends to have a higher magnitude towards the cleaning process, it is most commonly used Because of its effective cleaning properties in contrast with that of the manual one.
How Ultrasonic Gun Cleaning Works
Disregarding the time needed to reassemble and disassemble the weapon, the ultrasonic cleaning method requires less than 10 minutes to be completed. It is necessary that the cleaning is done in a commercial unit. The arms are first disassembled into its various components (field stripped). Then, all the rubbish and oil is cleaned off from the various parts to prepare it for the ultrasonic cleaning process. The different components are then inserted into a basket made up of stainless steel. Later, the basket is lowered into the unit’s heated tank, containing ultrasonic cleaning solution.
This unit generates high and low pressures by creating various sound waves. Such variations allow the creation of numerous small bubbles which are the basis of allowing the weapon to be cleaned from every corner, as microscopic cleaning is done. Once this is completed, the fire arms are removed from the solution, rinsed and ultimately dried through compressed air. The units are applied with lubricants in a separate basket by the same ultrasonic process used to clean the weapon. Finally, when the weapon has gone through another drying process, making sure that excess lubricants are removed, it becomes ready for reassembling, usage or storage.
What You’ll Need
Even though alkaline based solutions are readily available in the market but, it is important to have proper cleaning units which can heat up the solution towards as high a temperature as 260 degrees Celsius to allow the formation of the bubbles.
Ultrasonic cleaning units may be purchased easily. The prices of these units vary based on the amount of capacity, the quality and the brand, and can cost from around $100 to even $1000. Even though jewelers and some weapon retailers use these units for cleaning, these may also be searched for online to look for the best deals available. It is highly recommended that a unit which is particularly designed for the purpose of explicit gun oil applications is used.
Once the required units and cleansers are purchased, it becomes very easy and efficient to use them. 500 individual fire arms can be cleaned per gallon of the cleansing solution bought. The cost of one gallon of solution is about $70; it may be available at a lower price as well. These are eco-friendly because of their water based nature.
Caution should be taken when handling any wood grips, electronic sights or scopes as these should be placed aside and not be inserted into the solution. The solution is, however, very safe for materials such as blued and stainless steel gun surfaces, polymer frames, synthetic grips and night sights.
